Body on Tap: The Shampoo with Beer in It

Awhile back, my girlfriend's mom decided that we could really use a bunch of shampoo samples from the late seventies, early eighties. She'd been storing them in an equally ancient cardboard Velveeta box, and you wouldn't believe how cheap the Velveeta cheese slicer was back then.
Like today, there were plenty of unusual ingredients in shampoo back then, but now shampoos try to appear exotic whereas back in the day they just promised to kick grease's ass. Indeed, one shampoo sample repeatedly boasted that it would punch out "the greasies", which made me a bit uncomfortable. I can attest that after twenty-something years, that shampoo didn't have much fight left in it.
The most unusual shampoo was Body on Tap, the beer-enriched shampoo. There isn't much explanation as to how beer makes the difference, but it probably just involves subtlely intoxicating you and consequently giving you an inflated sense of your physical self. Apparently it has an "elegant" fragrance too.
See more of the Body on Tap packaging for yourself.
I haven't actually applied it to my hair and not out of fear but as a collector of whatever crap he comes across and deems crazy enough to keep. And the idea of beer-enriched shampoo, while not as ludicrous as my edible laundry detergent creation, charts respectably on the crazy scale if there ever was one and there is and it was invented by me. Just be warned that when everyone's getting out the tough stains with Sabroso Limpio, you'll know I've hit the big time.

Here's a good discussion about Body on Tap at Big Pink Cookie. You could've found it via Google easily, but with Google around what's the point in posting links anymore. And apparently it does smell great.

I found original, sealed bottles and cases on eBay. The comments on the page I linked to in the first comment point to sites that sell it as well. It doesn't seem all that rare actually.

I miss Body on Tap. I used it as a teenager like most teens i suppose. I can smell it even after 25 years. I've been looking for a while now along with Tame conditioner. Anybody have any clues where to look.

I just got some on Ebay - only one bottle though and I used it today. Oh, the memories. I used it on my daughter too. It's still amazing! My hair is soooo shiny today and I could comb thru it without using another product first. I'm still trying to get more and using what I have s.p.a.r.i.n.g.l.y.

Body on Tap is vintage memory for most of us. What a shame that our kids will never get to smell that smell!

I remember body on tap ,I used it as well as a teenager. they don't seem to make things in the original form anymore ,now they add to a great product or take the original away . I miss the good old 70's and 80's. I wish they would just leave whats selling alone.

Hi, I actually used this shampoo in the 70's when I was in high school. I loved it. It made my hair really shiny and soft. Wish I could actually find it now.

It's true, get both Body on Tap and Gee, Your Hair, etc., at Vermont Country Store online. Just search on their name. I've never tried it, but you all have convinced me that I should.

My dad would buy this shampoo when I was very young because this shampoo was not that very expensive back then....I just loved this shampoo and I wish I can buy it today but I can not locate it either except for Vermont Country Store which I do not feel comfortable in ordering on line.

I found it at www.vermontcountrystore.com for $14.95 a bottle.

Apparently the VCS version does not have beer in it, so it is not the original formula but to me the SCENT was the winner anyway!
