One squarehappy 2 Rule Them All

I was looking back at the old squarehappy a few days ago when I scrolled down to an entry still on the home page. It was dated July 7th, 2004. The posting announced the development of a new and improved squarehappy, which was referred to as version 2 or v2. It promised to deliver the squarehappy that should have been, but not necessarily in a timely fashion. And with that post-disclaimer, I present to you a very modest website known as squarehappy version 2, about 10 months later.

I could've gone a full year. Oh I would've hated myself for that. This site did not take a great deal of coding. It did take a great deal of learning from my past mistakes and a few volumes of PHP & MySQL literature. I still can't say I'm fully pleased.

But I'm not gonna make excuses. I lagged. I'm sure I went for a month's stretch of time without touching this site. I wasted time creating styles for an HTML document that I would, again, rewrite completely from scratch. I would create designs that I thought were 'da bomb' only to look at them later and realize they simply bombed. I would stop coding for so long that I would forget simple syntax. I still can barely remember the names of most functions, relying on my memory of what the function actually does and using that knowledge to look it up on php.net.

The feature I've probably spent the most time working on, the style switcher, is currently disabled. I promised myself I would up the bar with this site (and for real this time) and the other styles simply didn't quite cut it, especially in terms of usability and compatibility. Soon I'll be able to leave Live completely behind and focus on a new style. Or making one of the old styles work, but I prefer not to finish things I start.

My ability to test this site across various browsers and platforms is currently limited to Windows and free online services such as iCapture. I can't promise that I'm perfect, but if my site looks messed up in your browser then email me with a screenshot and I'll add some lens flares and motion blurs to it and email it back to you for your Photoshop battle repartee. I also hired an albino to look at it through goggles filled with apple sauce and see if a solution to your browser's incompatibility to my site would appear. Alas, it didn't. But I digress.

I've got a repository of fresh content planned for this site that will be unveiled in the coming weeks. I hope to make it through June before that well runs dry and I think my laziness will probably ensure that that is the case. Be prepared for a lot of boring drivel regarding HTML and CSS not to mention a lot of stream of consciousness ranting to make up for the fact that I haven't done any writing in far too long. And I can always fall back on telling you what I've done today since I woke up. Nothing.

I recently became a fan of RSS feeds and have provided a feed for squarehappy. If you haven't tried RSS feeds yet you are missing out on a lot of time that you could be saving. They're a godsend if you still have 56K as well. Not that I do. Eww. So enjoy the content from the old site while I scramble to put together an essay that's able to clear the content bar I've set.
